Beauty Trends for the New Year- 2017

Happy New Year to you!
This is going to be my first post of the new year and it's going to be interesting.
Some trends from last year have slowly faded away, while past ones are revived and bringing back a cool vibe with an edge!

So let's take a look at what will come in this new year of beauty change.

Glossy Eyes:
(Makeup Artist- Jordan Liberty)
Jordan is known for his high shine, glossy eyes. A beautiful look!

Red Lips:                                                                  A red lip is always in season whether it's cool-tone or a yellow-tone. Find your best shade!

Glitter Eyes:                                                         ( Bottom lash liner)
( Drawing painted by me: Joy Carey)
A splash of lathered glitter on your bottom eyelashes will create that sparkle you need to stand out in a unicorn kind of way!

Bold Blush:                                                               Splash some color on your cheeks! Cheeks with color are in trend, so find your favorite shade.

Metallic Eyes:                                                       The metal look has continued onto this year. Using metals on the eyes, lips, and nails are quite the look you will see in every magazine. From soft to smoky, either way it's metal mania!

Strobe and Glow:                                                 (Makeup Artist- Jordan Liberty)
Get that nice glow while strobbing from the Apple of your cheeks, upward your cheek bone. A nice glowy sheen keeps the spotlight on you in a good way!

Wavy Hair:                                                               Hair that is full of body, flowing with waves can make wanting to touch your hair, impossible for others. It can be romantic, sophisticated,  and edgy at anytime when any mood strikes!

Sophisticated Eyebrows:                                       No more painted on, sharpie looking boxy brows! A more naturally full, yet only fill in necessary areas are what is shaping our brows this season.

These are just a few already trending. If you haven't noticed this year, dramatic contouring is fading out to a softer look keeping skin looking healthy and glowy. Natural Beauty is in from skin to hair! What will you be wearing??

Please share what you think or hope to try for this new season.
Much love and hugs as always,

Joy Carey

24KT GOLD EYE MASKS

Hello Lovelies!

I finally got to try out these wonderful eye pad masks. I purchased these from TJMAXX  many months ago, so I forgot about them as everyday life took over. The other night when I had some quiet time to myself, I treated myself to these beautiful glitters of GOLD!!! When getting them out of the package they were very moist and slippery upon application.

I will say the overall experience of 20 minutes of letting these glorious GOLD wonders of magic made me feel relaxed and rich in gold, lol.... . My under eye area afterwards did feel smooth, hydrated, and awakened. These beautiful golden pads are enriched with collagen. We love collagen since it helps to tighten our skin!
Here I am below subjecting myself in trying
this golden wonder of making me stay forever youthful! Haha!

Please let me know if you have tried these or something similar to it. I will keep using these over a month's time in seeing truly if my under eye area improved in
 elasticity. Wish me luck!!

Much love and hugs,

JOY

Owning your INDIVIDUALITY in the world of FOLLOWERS

If the title of this blog post captured your interest, then I welcome you with open arms! For this needs to be discussed before we or anyone else out there loses what is unique about themselves in the first place. Being your own individual- self may seem difficult at times, especially in the "LAND OF BEAUTY". So, let's discuss it....shall we?

In case you haven't noticed already, there is plenty out there to follow, copy, and compare when seeking a specific look. Being a makeup artist myself, I love to create most forms of art. Individual expression can be beautiful, but also become complicated and torturing to one's soul. Knowing who you are , what you want , and what you see can give you the tools in which direction you shall go.

I would say for the past year, we have seen many trends in the fashion/beauty world. Most of what I have seen is being followed by the masses. While knowing what is the current trend can be a good thing, it can also strip us from our own individuality......the very thing that dared us to be different.  For me, I want to still look like myself and not a distorted version of what the world thinks I should look like.

I want all WOMEN and especially younger women to know that I SEE YOU....... I see your insecurities, I see your hopes and dreams, I see your pain, I see your joy, I see your accomplishments,  and I see your failures! What has happened to us? To where we need to look like one another in order to feel WHOLE, APPRECIATED, and VALUED. There should not be no tearing down of one another, picking apart of each and every thing.

Even being a Mother myself, I still see the age ol'war of working Moms vs. stay at home Moms.  None of this should be a competition,  but it is.  I hope to see where one's beauty is defined in who the person is, what they do , taking care of themselves on the inside and out. Your appearance on the outside can define on what's going on the inside of you, if you look close enough. Does that make sense?

If you lose who you are because of what seems acceptable, pleasing to another, and beautiful to the eye staying on trend you have become lost.  Know this though, not all that wander are lost! Trying to figure these out when your young, you look to others which is understandable. Build up your confidence, my daughters and sisters of the world. Choose to be YOU and no one else! Don't over contour your face, life to the point it becomes unrecognizable even a distorted version.

Set goals , making a list of things that you seek to achieve by a certain time-frame. Think of things that INSPIRE YOU, ENCOURAGE YOU, and DIRECT YOU onto a path of success. Surround yourself with like- minded individuals,  freeing yourself from those that pull you down taking you nowhere.  Living life through someone else is not living your own life.

You are more than a contoured, highlighted face, you are more than the brand you wear, you are more than a number , following someone else , you are more than the top 10 of every list depicting a fabulous person or life! What you have to offer is not only different, but special. Have faith, endurance, and become wiser than you were before. Let life MAKE YOU NOT BREAK YOU!

Even when the rest of world seems cruel, unkind, and unloving, be a DAVID in the world of GOLAITHS! Meaning having strength and courage amongst the fight to live in peace having happiness and security. I sincerely hope you feel encouraged, up-lifted, and embraced as the person you are. While we can't always change another's opinion , we can choose to decide who we share our life with.
BE TRUE TO YOURSELF, MY BEAUTIES!!

Much love and hugs,

JOY

What's NEW AT THE DRUGSTORE ♡

Hey Everyone, look what I found at my local Walmart!
Some new makeup goodies, that I have been hearing about for the past couple of weeks.  I thought I would share just in case some of you haven't been in the loop on drugstore makeup news.

I always get excited when I see new makeup items whether it's drugstore or high-end. Are you with me?? Lol.  And yes, I am a makeup addict! Now a couple of the items that I purchased have been out for about a month or so, please bear with me. Usually, I like to post these right when they have been released if they are available in my area. My local Walmart has been behind and is slower than others....making me frustrated at times.

So, let's get started with my little mini-haul . Shall we?
First, I was on the hunt for that Physician's Formula Butter Bronzer. I have seen some reviews on it from YouTube and was curious. since it was said to have a scent of coconut and the beach. Sounds delightful, doesn't?
( Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer $14)
Shade Bronzer 6676

Woohoo!! I found it in the shade Bronzer 6676. I couldn't wait to open it up , swatching it and smelling it! And yes, it has the scent of coconut and the beach. I am so wanting to go to the beach now! Lol.  When I swatched it, it didn't appear very orange nor was it very dark. I think it your light skin and to a medium skin tone you can wear this.

It felt very smooth and buttery-soft to my fingers. Too bad, they did not have a shade for darker skin tones without it looking ashy or gray. I certainly hope they will come out with one to meet that demand. Looking forward to trying this out on my face later this week!

Next while in the same aisle, I passed by CoverGirl. I saw some new eye palettes. There are actually 3 different shades NUDES, ROSES, and GOLDENS with 8 shades each. I picked up the GOLDENS palette. Now from what I have heard, these are suppose to be similar to the Urban Decay, Naked palettes.

(CoverGirl trunaked GOLDENS $9.99)

The shades are very nice and are of a different formula than any of the CoverGirl eyeshadows I have ever seen. The texture is very smooth, buttery, and pretty good in pigment.  Truly, a great improvement than their other eyeshadow formulas. I am really impressed!

Now, time for some LIP LOVE♡♡. I don't know about you, but some things in the drugstore land are getting exciting! What such fun to see some new products and packaging! Hard♡Candy has several new items now. From lips, cheeks, and eyes. I only picked up one lip product though, but will go back this weekend.
( HARD♡CANDY Velvet Mousse Matte lip color in CHERRY BLOSSOM $6)

The lip goodie above is Hard♡Candy's new Velvet Mousse Matte lipcolor. All of the different shades comes in a cute, colorful metal container. The shade I purchased is a nice medium rose. It felt creamy and had a nice shine, drying to a matte look. The color is quite pigmented and left a stain on my hand, easily removed by soap and water.

My second lip color, I purchased was the REVLON Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor.  The packaging of the tube is sleek, showing the color very well. It has an angled applicator and a slight fruity, sweet scent. It did go on creamy and smooth being of great pigment.
( REVLON ULTRA HD MATTE LIPCOLOR  in 620 Flirtation Flirt $9)

Last, but not least is the MILANI, Amore Matte Lip Creme. Now, these have been out for several months and I only saw 1 shade at my Walmart. It is a dark shade of which I don't wear a lot of, but I thought I would try it. The formula of this lip cream feels and looks thicker than the others. Having a sponge-tip applicator it can easily be spread over your lips. * Quick tip, be careful to not go out your lip line for it stains , especially with wearing this shade.
(MILANI AMORE MATTE LIP CREME #18 Obsession $6)

All this week, I will be testing these products out and seeing how they wear and for how long. Please let me know if you have tried any of these and share your opinion how they worked for you! I love hearing from you!!

Much love and hugs ♡

JOY

Being a MOTHER on a MISSION

Hello Everyone!

This blog post is going to be very different than any blog I have ever posted before. Please be patient with me and hear my heart ♡ as I come to you in sharing my story being a mother/parent. My most important position and job in my life is being a mother.

Most that know me well and my life outside of makeup, skincare, and all things beauty--know that I am very passionate about advocating for those with disabilities. Yes, you are learning something new about me. The reason why I am so passionate about disabilities is because of my son.
(My son and I)

My greatest gift and blessing has been being his mother. His disability being affected by Autism and being developmentally/intellectually disabled is a daily struggle for him and us as a family. Where we live my son's weaknesses in social interaction and knowing social cues in how to communicate with others has become tricky at times.
We have great support from family and friends, but not always within our neighborhood or community. It has been hard for others in understanding that while my son looks like any other 17 year old, he is often seen as annoying, a nuisance to those that refuse to get to know him and us as a family.
(My son and my husband)

The words annoying and nuisance is used because of my son's social weaknesses that others see.  He is always wanting a friend and will try to get their attention in ways that others find indifferent, annoying, and or strange to them. He really does try to control his behaviors at times, but gets anxiety and becomes overwhelmed by the response he receives.
As his mother, through the years I have worked very hard in improving his social skills. Many years of therapies and appointments were our everyday life in the beginning years. Even now, I still continue to work with him. How he is today, socially,  is a big improvement than how he was in years past.
( Me and my precious son at a year old)

Sometimes to some individuals, ones that choose to not understand another that is differently-abled, they can't seem to get pass the individual's mistakes no matter if they can help it in how they were born neurologically or mentally. To be clear....AUTISM is a neurological disorder where their brain biochemically & electronically has an abnormal connection. DEVELOPMENTALLY/INTELLECTUALLY  DISABLED is defined as being delayed(behind) lacking socially, mentally and/or physically impaired than others their own age.

As you can see,  this can be quite challenging in how an individual responds to their environment and how they function in responding with behaviors not always understood. There is no cure. But social skills and life skills can be taught, learning a better way in how they relate to others.

If you yell, bully, or insult someone with my son's disability, this will cause them to get upset becoming defensive and provoking behaviors that otherwise could be prevented leading to a meltdown. And that my friends is where families like us can have a problem. Imagine feeling overwhelmed, hearing not just words, but just pure noise, stimuli (sensory-wise) that comes over your body like a mac-truck becoming very painful.

When one experiences that, it almost becomes impossible to process, control yourself and your actions until you can get to a quiet-safe place to calm down.  I hope that makes sense to anyone reading this. I truly don't want to sound like that I make any excuses for my son's behaviors at all, only to explain and to educate others. Anytime there is a behavior there is a reason and we must acknowledge that.

Up till now, we have tried to live peacefully in our neighborhood but there are some that choose to be difficult. I have never in my life encountered such hatred, cruelty,  harassment,  and bullying. At first, other children were bullying my son, then he would defend himself so, now it's their parents that are showing their children it is acceptable to do.

I have tried through the years in showing them how to interact with my son and others like him to have a more positive encounter and experience. It is like it all went on deaf ears. It seems, I can not change their opinion of my son and or us as a family.  I have had to become a Momma bear in protecting my son many times.

Things have escalated to the point it has become dangerous on both sides. They know how to upset my son and will now do these things hoping he will become so upset that he will destroy property or throw objects at them , trying to escape their well-intended motives. You see my son is now 17 years old and by police law he is no longer considered a juvenile.  He would be treated as an adult no matter his disability. I must protect my child.

This is terrible to know that my family is a target of individuals that are determined to make our lives a living hell! I know some families and other parents of loved ones with a disability may be able to relate. Many years ago, I had a support group to help other families like us while promoting awareness and education.

Sometimes in doing the right thing, you may not always be accepted or welcomed. So, after several years I stopped having meetings. It truly saddens my heart♡, that a community refuses to accept, help, and acknowledge their most vulnerable, disabled members.  We can no longer live in this community after almost 18 years.

It really breaks my heart and yet, angers me at the same time. Moving from here, will be one traveled road that I choose to not ever travel again. I have always taught my child to be kind to others no matter their race, religion, differences or abilities. For him to have experienced such cruel, hurtful encounters at a young age and through the years, it has marked him in ways that no one should ever know! It has made him feel insecure, thinking he is a bad person, feeling like no one wants to be his friend, and wanting to not be born.

I encourage him telling him that these individuals are only a handful and not the rest of the world for there is people out there , that are kind, understanding, and loving. I have hope that our circle will continue to grow in celebrating my son's strengths and abilities. We are and have always been a family that is special not just because of my son, but because we understand, have compassion, empathy, and love for others. We friend the friendless,  will feed the hungry, wipe the tears of those that cry, and love the unloved.

I hope if anything after reading my extremely long blog, that you have a better understanding of anyone living with a disability and their families.  I never want to force an issue, but the disabled are growing in numbers everywhere especially with Autism. Every community needs to have trained emergency responders, support groups, and services especially respite for the caregivers.

I love my son so very much! Please know being a care'giver is a tiring task some days, working on little sleep, and traveling to many therapy/dr.appointments.  If anything ask us , how you can help when you see us in a moment of need. You would truly be a HERO!!! Get to know us , we love to feel included, and accepted.
Thank you and many blessings.

Much love and hugs,
               JOY
