Rulez of the BUSINESS GAME, being a Makeup Artist

Hello All! I thought I would write about some business tips for makeup artists that may be having trouble knowing what to charge for their services. Sometimes it can be confusing, frustrating and down right disappointing at times. The truth?? Some do not know their worth.

There are many things that go into figuring what you should charge as an artist. First things first though, I would say its a good idea to look at other makeup artists rates. You must look at how many years of experience, skill and background knowledge one has to be more detailed and thorough about your services.

For instance, one makeup artist may have a cosmetologist license or estheticians  license. Then some have taken many workshops, seminars,  and other training. Doing an internship with another artist is a great way to improve experience and know how.

For instance, I learn better when I  do hands-on work and visually see it before me. Does that make sense?  Basically, you are your greatest successor.  Choose what works for you and know the benefits.

All that you do and know can become a profit to your business. Invest your time into marketing yourself. Show others why you are the perfect fit for their project and team.  Be a people-person!

Say what?? You say....yes, being a people person, one that knows how to approach people in a open inviting way. Promoting conversation using one's best social skills is a must! Introducing yourself to another is a great way to make contacts in the business.

Making a great first impression leaves them in wanting to know and see more of what you do. Giving them a business card to contact you for future jobs or for referrals means $$$ in your path to success!

Your rate should always include your time, travel, and supplies. Finding out all the details about a job helps you to pinpoint a more thorough rate. Think about quality versus quantity.  The quality of your work can give a future client more assurance that the job will be done right .

Be time conscious as well, never underestimate your working time to give a finished look. You want your work to look fabulous not messy and hurried. When we feel rushed, we make mistakes that can cause others to lose faith in us.

No matter what, your rate is specifically set for you. Stand behind it, believe in it, and have pride in it! Know your worth, be honest, and be fair.
If this is your full-time job, that pays your bills, then you can not afford to not invest of others that are seeking for free services. FREE DOES NOT PAY YOUR BILLS.....

Hope you find the above useful! Let me know if you have any questions.

Much love and hugs,

JOY
